Love Keeps a Record

Love Keeps a Record

2024-02-16 Inspiration

We're going a bit deep today, but it's going to be good! Let's get started.

***

I've spent considerable time contemplating one of the most familiar passages of Scripture -- 1 Corinthians 13. It's often quoted at weddings, but it should be a part of daily life!

In verse 5, the Word of God says that Love doesn't keep a record of ("does not take into account") wrongs. Furthermore, love "bears all things" and "endures all things" (verse 7).

If you're anything like me, you agree with this statement when it works to your benefit, but you utterly fail in your application of it toward others. Part of the problem is we're not able to grasp what this looks like in daily life -- until today!

CAUTION: I'm about to seriously mess with your ability to berate your loved ones with their record of wrongdoings and failure.

You've been warned now, so read on only if you dare...

I felt impressed to start a record of my wife's winning moments -- the things she gets right each day. Just this morning, I recorded two entries... It's clear this is going to merit a journal of its own before long.

While keeping & maintaining the record is a good thing, I need to go further!

I need to honor those wins -- celebrate them any way I can, as often as I can (verse 6). This is especially important when my sweetheart is not enjoying a winning moment, but feels she is drowning in losses!

It's at these times I need to pull out all the stops and hold a victory celebration -- to treat her based on the wining record instead of the momentary loss(es).

A stunning bouquet of red roses.

I get to be the one that gives her the epic pep-talk of a lifetime -- and you can do this for your loved ones too!

Until we start winning within our own home -- in relationships with our spouse & children, we will be ineffective out in the world we live in.

I hope this post inspires you to join me and start winning in your most important relationships. As always, I love to hear from you in the comments.

Let's go after it!

- Joe

p.s.: Putting this into practice will help you write great things inside greeting cards to your loved ones!
